A Day Out

I will be posting up some pics from the Fanime convention...but man that whole ordeal was a little bit overwhelming. I wouldn't have thought that so many people would go to such events, but it somewhat took over a whole city block full of people in cosplay. There were some very interesting costumes that's for sure, but with all of them, it was rather distracting. I am somewhat thankful that I don't really attend these events, even though it would be cool to see what happens inside the large convention center.
Other than that, I went plain aire painting today at Alumn Rock Park. It was a really nice spot to paint at.I went with a large group of us out to the hills and enjoyed the afternoon out. It seems that this summer we also are going to be spending each Monday going out Plain aire painting. Hopefully it will help out with my painting skills. I will be posting that work up soon thats for sure!

Fanime Convention

This will be my first experience ever with a fanime convention...well honestly I am not going inside to check out the booths, but I am looking into checking out the people's costumes! I believe today is the last day of the convention and I have been wanting to draw cosplayers in their costumes, and maybe even run into my fellow artists. In previous years I have been wanting to go to the convention but always money has been a concern. One other thing that always get's me, is that I am honestly not a full on anime worshiper to the point that I can squeel at high pitch intervals and chitter like a chibi. These conventions I feel, are more for the extremists, who have money.

One year in highschool, I was offered to go with some friends, but they were talking about staying up throughout the whole time, with the use of energy drinks, watching anime always and just going crazy. I don't know if I would ever be up for something like that...that is if people honestly still do things like that, even at my age ( though I'm honestly not THAT old...-__-). I think I would have liked most about going to a fanime convention is as to see the artist's present their work. It's not like every day that you find a famous artist. Also along with that there would be alot of interesting things to see, even if there would be alot of odd people. I guess that's what makes a convention a convention. Welp I hope I will get to see some interesting people while I am out on this nice day!

Sketchbook Review

Here are some of recent Sketchbook drawings that I had to do for a sketchbook review for the program at SJSU. I am planning for the summer to do at least 3 sketchbooks, consisting of painting, people studies and plein aire. Also I am hoping to even do a project within maya too.

First Post

Hello everyone!

This is my first ever blog that I have started. I really want to be able to post my work from school as well as from my sketchbook. In a way this is also my out lit for creativity and also for maybe other personal works that I have done.I will have to see how all of this goes out, but here is a little bit of information about myself.

Like the title says, my name is Meghan Auer. I am 23 years old and I am attending San Jose State University for Animation and Illustration. I have been studying art for the past 5 years so I am still learning . I want to work mostly on environments, but since I have recently taken Modeling in Maya, I'm not sure if I want to move my focus more towards the 3D side of things. What I like most about environments is just how the surroundings can also tell a story of a scene or even give a sense of mood without being overpowering. I was greatly influenced to move towards this focus by Miyazaki films, because of the great amount of detail that is put into the backgrounds. Also I can say that I am just more drawn ( pun intended :P) to just all of the detail and design a environment can have.

Other than enviroment, I am just hoping that I can become a stronger artist as a whole so there will be very different illustrations/drawings that I post up here, even animation! :D

With a blog now, I can push myself more and more to becoming comfortable with showing my work as well as even see if I progress.
